Children's Orthodontics
Children's orthodontics / interceptive (Mallorca · Can Pastilla)
Pediatric orthodontics guides jaw growth and tooth eruption to prevent future malocclusions. At our clinic in Can Pastilla (Palma de Mallorca), we detect habits (thumb/pacifier sucking), mouth breathing, lack of space, or crossbites early on to intervene before the problem becomes complex.
Objectives
Improving respiratory function, space for permanent teeth, facial symmetry, and oral habits. This makes treatments in adolescence shorter and simpler.
Tools
Expanders, functional appliances, bite blocks, habit grids, and pediatric aligners in selected cases.
Process
Evaluation at 6–7 years of age (or earlier if there are signs).
Personalized interceptive plan and regular checkups.
Re-evaluation at the end of growth to determine if a fixed phase is needed.
Why choose us?
Friendly team, short appointments, adapted language, and coordination with pediatric dentistry and speech therapy/ENT when appropriate.
Frequently Asked Questions
Why is it important to evaluate at 6-7 years old?
Because it coincides with the eruption of the first permanent molars and permanent incisors. At this stage we can detect and guide jaw growth, correct habits (pacifier, finger sucking, mouth breathing) and prevent simple problems from turning into complex malocclusions in adolescence.
What appliances are used and are they comfortable?
We use functional appliances, expanders and bite planes, among others. They are designed to be well tolerated; they require a brief adaptation period and regular checkups. By working with growth, treatments are usually shorter and more efficient than at later ages.
Will my child need fixed orthodontics later?
Sometimes yes, but thanks to the interceptive phase it is usually shorter and simpler. The goal is to create space, improve function and guide eruption so that subsequent alignment is minimal or easier.
How can we parents help at home?
By promoting good hygiene, following wear times if the appliance is removable, taking care of the diet and monitoring oral habits. It is also key to attend scheduled appointments to adjust the appliance and measure progress.
