Endodontics
Endodontics / Root Canal Treatment (Mallorca · Can Pastilla)
Endodontics—also called root canal treatment—allows for the preservation of teeth damaged by deep cavities, fractures, or internal infections. At our clinic in Can Pastilla, we perform the procedure with absolute isolation using a rubber dam to maintain a dry and clean field throughout the entire session.
What does it consist of?
The affected pulp tissue (nerve) is removed, the root canals are cleaned and disinfected, and hermetically sealed to prevent reinfection, thus preserving your tooth and its chewing function.
Technology and Protocol
Rubber dam (absolute isolation).
Determination of working length with an electronic apex locator.
Chemical and mechanical disinfection (active irrigation) and shaping with rotary NiTi files.
Three-dimensional obturation with gutta-percha and endodontic sealer.
Magnifying loupes when necessary.

Frequently Asked Questions
Does a root canal hurt?
It is performed with local anesthesia, so it should not hurt. Afterwards, you may experience mild discomfort for 24–72 hours that can be managed with anti-inflammatories. In our clinic in Can Pastilla (Mallorca) we use rubber dam and rotary systems for greater comfort.
How do I know if I need it?
Signs: spontaneous pain or pain that persists with cold/heat, pain when chewing, fistula or deep cavity. We confirm with vitality tests and X-ray/CBCT. If there is irreversible pulpitis or necrosis, root canal treatment preserves the tooth.
How long does it take and what steps are involved?
Between 45 and 90 minutes depending on the tooth. Isolation with rubber dam, cleaning and disinfecting the canals, and obturation with gutta-percha. Sometimes it requires two appointments; afterwards, we recommend definitive restoration (inlay or crown).
What aftercare is needed and how long does the result last?
Avoid chewing hard until final restoration, maintain good oral hygiene and attend check-ups (X-ray control at 6–12 months). A root canal treated tooth can last many years if it is well sealed and protected; a mouthguard is recommended for bruxism.
